We were very pleased with Moxie's first litter by Colby (Poised Litter 2009), but we have enjoyed seeing several nice offspring from Justice and other lines turning out exceptionally nice in both conformation and temperament. With Moxie's extremely up, trainable and outgoing personality, not to mention her talents and work ethic on wild birds. That said, we think this combo will be exceptional as well. This plan of breeding Moxie to Justice brings great producing Vizslas together and plenty of talent for showing, field work, or performance events, or to simple snuggle with a soft warm Vizsla. Moxie was a wonderful mom her first time around, this litter should be a breeze.

Spring 2011

Justice is a handsome medium sized male, who was finished as a Champion in one weekend with three 5 point majors! The next time out he went Best Opposite Sex in Puppy Sweepstakes at the Twin Cities Vizsla Club Specialty, Best in Sweeps went to Moxie's half sister Glory! Once he was bred, it was evident he'd be a success as a producer, his "kids" were doing very well in top competition, including the 2009 National Specialty winning Winners Dog. Justice was entered in Stud Dog class at the 2009 Nationals and was the Top Winner going First in Stud dog with his get. Justice was shown this past 2010 Nationals in Best of Breed and made the "cut". I think he and Moxie will complement each other nicely.

Moxie's Labor Sat. 2/19/2011:

The Savvy's Week One:

During the first week, the puppies sleep and nurse. Moxie keeps all her babies super clean. Tails and Dew claws were done on day 3, it went just fine. These babies are very content, we love to cuddle with one puppy at time, till they nod off to sleep in your hands. Very precious times.

During the second week of life we eat and sleep most all the time. Our eyes have all opened now, we are right on schedule. We are starting to realize what our sibbling are, we chew on each others toes sometime, or try to wake one another chewing on a lip or two. We have no teeth yet, and our ears are still closed so we aren't bothered by loud sounds yet. Our Mom is meticulous about keeping us clean, she makes us wait to nurse now as she wants us clean before she feeds us. They say it's good training, learning to be patient. We have all gotten better at crawling and finding mom when she comes back from a potty break. We have had visitors and love to snuggle already!!

The Savvy's Week Three:

The Savvy's Week Two:

This is the week we begin to eat solids!! We are all starting to act like dogs, little tiny voices are emerging, with delicate barks and growls, too funny! We have more visitors, and get to meet a couple of our kitties. Life is good, we don't have ribbons on because mom can tell us apart.

The Savvy's Week Four:

It's starting to warm up in SD!! Maybe in a couple of weeks we can get the puppies outside!! At this age they have outgrown their whelping pool in the quiet office and have moved to the "Puppy Room" next to the dog room. Much noiser with the adult Vs in and out, they are having the best time with all the room. They are quickly learning paper training, waking up and moving off their blankie bedding and pottying on the newspapers. Several will go way down to the end of their run to do #2. "We have toys to play with, and we love to play and wrestle each other. " Momma Moxie still comes in frequently to check on us, but we think she is just about done nursing us, we've got teeth and must look like 8 little sharks coming at her!

The Savvy's Week Five:

The fifth week of life we find Mom Moxie spending little time with the puppies, just to quick nurse, make a few corrections and she's out of there! The puppies eat kibble 3 times a day. Their play periods are getting longer and longer, then of course they take long afternoon naps. Tough life! We put a Quail wing on a fishing rod/reel combo and these little ones all followed, intensely, got some cool points out of the pups.

The Savvy's Week Six:

During the sixth week the puppies are eager to play, cuddle, wrestle each other, and bite on me while I clean up their pen!! We are starting to work on puppy biting. The little girl here in the photos is my friend Melissa's daughter Avery, she is a natural with all animals, she takes a biting puppy and wraps it's lip under their own teeth and they learn quickly not to bite when they feel how sharp their own teeth are. Remind me to show you this technique when you come for your puppy!! Puppies are like human babies/toddlers everything goes into their mouth, including our fingers and hands to try and chew on. We had a really nice time over the weekend playing and socializing the babies, very nice temperaments! I'm thrilled with my Moxie puppies from both of her litters so far!

The Savvy's Week Seven:

Going into the seventh week and the puppies become quite active, lots of wrestling & toy tugging, keep away, and they still want plenty of snuggle time when I crawl in the pen with them. Moxie still jumps into the xpen every morning to see her babies and let them nurse away any milk she is still producing. Once they bite her, well let's just say "she's out of there"!

They all went for their first ride in the van, 30 minutes each way to our Vet to see Dr. Dick Rogen, no one got car sick so that was nice. Of course they checked out beautifully, good sounding hearts and lungs, good bites, no hernias, clean healthy ears, and a parasite free fecal exam. I encourage all the new puppy owners to do fecal exams again throughout your Vizsla's life, especially as a puppy to ensure they haven't encountered some nasty parasite/worm as they travel and walk though life. We set up the puppies on the service road behind the Vet Clinic just to keep the babies away from any sick animals, Dr. Rogen came outside to enjoy the pups and the sunshine.

Doing the stacked/standing photos gets more difficult weekly, the pups know they are going to get food while doing this procedure, oh my they get so wiggly and busy looking for food even when it's right in front of their faces. I posted what we got for photos. Enjoy...

The Savvy's Week Eight:

Butler is ready to go home to Texas with Derek and Beth. His new name might be Sonny from the Godfather films! In any case, Butler is one lucky boy and he will soon meet up with his half sib sister Holly owned by Derek & Beth's son Derek JR. It's going to be a fun Easter for them all!

Clooney went off to Denver with his new "mom" Corinna and her good friend Peter...you be a good boy for them. Clooney is now Ryder. Ryder slept most of the way home, he was a really good boy, maybe he should be registered as Jakra's Savvy Easy Ryder??

Harmon is staying in South Dakota for now, yeah!! His new mom Caitlin and dad Bill are going to have a fun time with their new baby boy!

Terri & Howard with Jewel who will be know as Jittsy, short for Jitterbug...she has a new big sister Chamois whom is a gentle Yellow Lab.

Neal will be taking Swayze back to Colorado Springs this week. His new name will likely be Roscoe. It would be nice to see some of these boys in the show ring...I got in the photo on the right, I guess I have a strong resemblance to Neal's Aunt.

Willis (Now Miles) goes home to Maple Grove MN with Emily and Nate...He's got a great mom and dad, and lots of potential!

The Savvy's Owner Update Photos (Puppyhood and Beyond):

We were now down to two puppies, Crowe and Selma. Selma will be staying with Jak and I and Crowe will now become Tatum with a AKC REG name of Jakra's Savvy Raider Assassin. He made his trek back to Portland via airplane with Mom Kasey in the cabin being a very good boy!
